New coaching structure for Senior Men’s teams at Winnington Park RFC

Changes in the senior Men’s coaching structure at Winnington Park RFC have now been agreed following the resignation of the existing coaching team. Garry Miller and Ben Elliot who have led the teams at Park for the last 2 seasons have stepped down from their current roles.

Chairman Paul Dean said” Under the stewardship of Garry and Ben the club have cemented their place in Regional 2 North West league following our promotion at the end of the 2021/22 season. We also had the memorable Papa John shield triumph at the end of last season. They have brought an exciting brand of Rugby to the club and a more professional approach. Ben as player coach was also instrumental in our success as a very important player for the club. We wish both Garry and Ben well and we are sure they will continue to support the club in the future”.

Following the departures of Garry and Ben the club have introduced a new coaching structure which it is hoped will continue to play an exciting style of Rugby and to continue the progress made in the last 2 seasons.

Mike Penny has been promoted to Head Coach at the club. Mike has a fantastic record as a coach at Northwich and Cheshire Police. He has overseen the clubs 2nd XV over the last 2 seasons during which the teams performances have improved considerably culminating in a 2nd place finish in the league this season.

Matt Farr returns to the clubs coaching team following a brief absence. Matt previously coached the club and played a huge part in the club reestablishing themselves at level 6 in the RFU league structure. Park were promoted twice under his leadership and won the Cheshire Bowl in 2018.

Richard Querelle will also be joining the coaching team. Richard played for Park as a player and more recently has been coaching at Northwich and Birkenhead Park. Richard is excited to return to his boyhood club and along with Mike and Matt is looking to continue the progress over the last two seasons.

The club’s 2nd XV sees the return of Paul Gibson to the coaching team. Paul previously coached alongside Matt Farr overseeing the 1st XV a very successful period and the clubs Colts team. Paul will join the existing Coaching team of Sean Magee and Nick Lee

The club continues to review its coaching structure and additional support for the coaching team will be recruited over the summer alongside a coaching team for our 3rd XV.

Park are already looking forward to the new season and are actively recruiting for players to join the club. Pre-season preparations commence on the 2nd July and anyone wishing to become part of a fantastic club, regardless of experience, should contact Dave Allcock on 07554 050134 or dave.allcock@hotmail.co.uk
