Richard Querelle - Director of Rugby
Having played rugby since aged 8 my senior career started with Somerset County when I was 18.
I then rejoined Winnington Park before I went to university in Buckinghamshire when I first met Martin Poste as my university coach. He took me to Aylesbury and ultimately many great years at Caldy before returning to Winnington to finish my playing career.
After a long hiatus I rejoined Martin at Northwich and Birkenhead Park to learn the art of being a DoR.
It is now an honour and privilege to be DoR at Winnington with such an experienced set of coaches for all levels of the senior squad all driven by Martin’s love of the game.
Martin Poste – Men’s head coach
Postie’s coaching career began after an injury brought his playing days to an early end. He started with Aylesbury Colts, progressing to coach the Buckinghamshire U19s and later the U21s. His success at county level led to his appointment as Head Coach at Chinnor. It was during this period that Harlequins approached him to become Assistant Coach—an opportunity he embraced and remembers fondly.
Following his time with Harlequins, Postie was named Senior Coach for the Buckinghamshire RFU and simultaneously returned to Aylesbury as Head Coach. In 1992, with the game turning professional, he took up the Head Coach role at Birkenhead Park. After three rewarding years, he moved on to Caldy, where he achieved significant success, including promotions and county competition wins. It was at Caldy that he reunited with Richard Querrelle, a player he had previously coached for Bucks while Querrelle was at university.
His journey then took him across the Pennines to Sheffield, where he helped reinvigorate a dormant club and guide them to promotion. Unfortunately, a serious health issue—a quadruple heart bypass—temporarily halted his progress.
After recovery, former Sheffield player Chris Dale introduced him to Northwich. Postie once again made an impact, leading the club to two promotions and two county plate victories. Sadly, a cancer diagnosis brought this chapter to an early close.
Postie returned to coaching for a season at Birkenhead Park, helping them secure promotion, which appeared to mark the end of the road for both him and long-time friend and colleague Steve Dorrington.
However, in the autumn of last year, Winnington Park came calling. Former player Richard Querrelle—by now a trusted friend and long-time associate—invited the pair to support the club’s new ambitions. Inspired by the opportunity, Postie agreed to take on the challenge once again and is looking forward to what he hopes will be another successful chapter in his long and distinguished coaching career.
P.S. His great friend Steve Dorrington has since returned to his roots and now serves as President of his former club, New Brighton. We all wish him the very best.
Joe White – Men’s forward’s coach
Joe White, 34, brings over two decades of playing experience to his new role as forwards coach. Recently retired due to injury, Joe’s journey in rugby has seen him evolve from a fly-half to a seasoned front row player. He’s represented clubs including Ellesmere Port, Chester, New Brighton, Birkenhead Park, and Anselmians, and earned county honours with Cheshire at U17, U18, and U20 levels.
Now a proud husband and father of three, Joe is excited to transition into coaching. He’s eager to get stuck into the role, connect with the squad, and help drive progress in the league. With a strong foundation from last season, Joe is focused on building momentum and developing the forward pack’s strength and cohesion.
Matt Farr – Men’s backs coach
Matt Farr has a rich rugby background, both as a player and coach, with strong ties to the English club scene. Starting at Crewe & Nantwich RUFC, he rose to prominence playing centre for Winnington Park during their successful early 1990s era, helping secure three Cheshire RFU Cup wins while competing in the National League. He later played at the top level with Orrell and also had spells at Chester, showcasing his experience across multiple competitive tiers.
Following his playing career, Matt transitioned into coaching, returning to Crewe & Nantwich and Chester before a brief hiatus to focus on work. In 2017, he came full circle, taking over as head coach at Winnington Park. Since then, he’s played a key role in the club’s resurgence, achieving two promotions and a Papa John’s Cup victory. Passionate about rebuilding and long-term success, Matt continues to guide the team with deep commitment and club pride.
Aaron Collins – Men’s strength and conditioning coach
Aaron Collins, 29, steps into a new chapter in rugby as part of Winnington Park’s coaching setup, focusing on Strength and Conditioning. Forced to retire last year due to a hip injury, Aaron is determined to stay closely involved in the sport he loves. He brings a sharp edge and serious energy to his new role—ready to “bring the hammer down” in the gym and on the training pitch.
Aaron’s playing days saw him represent Northwich and the prestigious London Welsh Academy, where he developed a solid foundation in performance and discipline. Now, he’s excited to channel that experience into building fitter, faster, and stronger players at Winnington Park.
Mike Penny – Men’s coach
Mike Penny brings a wealth of grassroots coaching experience to his role as head coach of Winnington Park’s second XV. Under his leadership, the team secured an impressive second-place league finish last season. Mike has previously coached at neighbouring clubs, including Northwich and the Cheshire Police, further showcasing his deep involvement in the local rugby community.
Mike’s coaching credentials are notable—particularly his past success with Northwich Rugby Club, where he led the team to a national cup victory at Twickenham. His passion for developing local talent and fostering competitive squads continues to be a valuable asset to Winnington Park.
Danny Townsend - Men's Coach / Assistant to Head Coach
Danny Townsend, originally from the West Country, began his rugby journey at Stow-on-the-Wold before moving to Cheshire in 1979. He enjoyed a successful playing career at Northwich RUFC (formerly Mid Cheshire College), starting as a hooker before transitioning to full-back for the 1st XV. After retiring from playing, Danny moved into coaching, serving as Assistant Coach during Northwich’s unbeaten season and national cup victory at Twickenham. He has also delivered coaching in local primary and secondary schools, helping to grow the game at grassroots level.
Following a short spell at Birkenhead Park, Danny joined Winnington Park where he supports the 1st XV coaching team and wider club operations. Passionate about the sport, Danny is a key figure in the club’s set-up and brings decades of experience to the role. “I just love it,” he says. “I’ve always played a sport, and I really don’t know what to do on a Saturday unless there’s some sort of rugby.”
Roger Pickering- Men’s Backs Coach
With extensive coaching experience both on and off the pitch, Roger Pickering returns to WPRFC, now serving as Backs Coach for the men’s teams. He previously held the role of Men’s Head Coach, where under his leadership the team secured notable victories, demonstrating improved concentration and tactical awareness.
His holistic coaching approach—combining technical expertise in backline play with strong player welfare and situational awareness—makes him a valuable addition to the WPRFC coaching setup.
In his role as Backs Coach, Roger will focus on sharpening tactical execution, enhancing decision making under pressure, and ensuring the backs unit performs with intensity and structure on match day.
As a player Roger played both codes of rugby and represented the county at both codes too. He played for Trafford Borough and Prescott Panthers under the leadership of RL Lions coach and icon Maurice Bamford where he learnt about structured play and the importance of core skills within every player.
Nick Lee – Pathway and development manager
Nick worked his way through age-grade rugby at local clubs and schools in the Nottingham area up to Midland’s representative level. He played 1st XV university rugby before starting his senior career joining Novocastrians in the Northeast Leagues. He went on to play for Heriots RFC 1st XV in Edinburgh playing in the Scottish Premiership for 5 seasons. He started out as a scrumhalf before playing at fly half and then played on the wing for Heriots.
He has seen all 3 of his sons play rugby at Winnington Park over the last 15 years from minis up to colts and has since settled in to helping develop the 2nd XV over the last 3 seasons. He is now leading on player development for the club, with particular emphasis on helping guide younger players through form junior levels to playing for the senior team.
Dan Morrillo - 1st XV Team Manager
Played schoolboy rugby and college rugby up to the age of 18 at second row and back row forward. Played both rugby union and rugby league at the University of Salford from 1990 to 1994, mainly played rugby league at prop.
I have been involved at WPRFC since 2011 as team admin and then coaching up to senior colts. I have been team manager for the first team since 2021 and also manage the Veo game recordings. I still play touch rugby at the club and have been playing for over 10 years.
Looking forward to the new season and welcoming new members of the coaching staff and players to build a solid foundation for the season ahead.
