Orrell v WPRFC
19th March 2022 – Park win on the road
Orrell 26 – 45 WPRFC
This week Park was away at bottom of the table Orrell on a rearranged fixture on a previously free weekend and had to field a reshuffled squad due to players being unavailable. Park needed a bonus point win to keep is the the race for the league third spot.
The game started with Orrell driving Park into our own 22 with some hard running but Park responded with a great turnover and exit and then Cam Flanagan kicking a 50:22 to give park the first real scoring opportunity. The resultant line out was won by Park, but Orrell were judged to be offside at the first breakdown and Alex Glendinning saw an opportunity with a quick tap and powering over the line to score our first try on 2 minutes which was converted by Cam Flanagan (0-7).
The restart was kicked out on the full by Orrell and Park secured the ball from the scrum and a chip through by James Johnson was chased by Lee Allmark who scored a converted try in the corner (0-14) with only 6 minutes on the clock. Orrell indiscipline gave Park opportunities and Cam Flanagan kicked a penalty on 11 minutes to keep the scoreboard ticking over (0-17).
Park dominated the set piece with both scrum and lineout working well which gave us a great platform to launch our attack. On 15 minutes Park were in again with a clever kick through by Alex Burrage for Lee Allmark to score his second try in the corner which was unconverted (0-22). Orrell replied with a converted try a couple of minutes later from a scrum in the Park 22 (7-22).
Park continued to work hard with both forwards and back making yards with every phase of play and using our kicking game to pressure Orrell. On 24 minutes Ashley Harding scored our fourth and bonus point try in the corner following a great passage of play through the hands in the backs which was unconverted (7-27). Park were not finished yet and Alex Burrage scored a converted try on 31 minutes (7-34) following another great set of hands through the backs. The half finished with Orrell scoring a converted try following a chip through to end the first half.
Half time score 14 - 34
The second half started with an Orrell high tackle which Cam Flanagan kicked the penalty (14-37). On 50 minutes Orrell scored with a nice backs play which was unconverted (19-37). Park continued to dominate the game and were threatening with every phase with strong carries from all our forwards who really put a shift in.
On 55 minutes Park struck again with a great play off a scrum and with quick thinking from Matt Treacy the ball was recycled quickly from a ruck 5 metres out and Matt Treacy scored an unconverted try (19-42). The game then became a battle of attrition and with the penalty count rising a couple of yellow cards changed the game. Park had one last penalty which was converted by Cam Flanagan to extend the lead (19-45), but Orrell got a last converted try on 72 minutes to round off the scoring (26-45). A great effort from all the Park players to get the bonus point win and keep the pressure on Keswick who we travel away to next week.
