13th November 2021 - Park back to winning ways!
WPRFC 30 – 17 Cockermouth
Following last weeks Northwich cup tie, Park were back in league action at home against the travelling bottom of the league side Cockermouth. With Park carrying a few long-term injuries, a Park reshuffled squad had a lot to prove following a few disappointing games in the league.
A strong Cockermouth start with a few traded penalties led to a Cockermouth break and a Mat Treacy tackle saving our early blushes. Park conceded a penalty in the 22 which Cockermouth failed to convert.
Following a scrappy period of play with both sides conceding penalties, Park took the advantage with a great passage of play only to be knocked on. Great drive by park in the scrum led to a knock on by Cockermouth in the tackle. The resultant Park scrum was capitalised by Alex Glendinning with a try on 18 minutes successfully converted by Cam Flanagan.
Park continued to pressure Cockermouth with a Will Nelson break supported by Mat Treacy and following a pick and drive an unconverted try from Liam Gough on his first appearance this season.
Cockermouth continued their pressure with some off loading in the tackle and Park conceded a penalty 10m out for not rolling away. The play was held up by Park resulting in a goal line drop out and Cockermouth capitalised on the pressure with quick tap penalty and an unconverted try.
Half time score 12 – 5
The second half started with a scrappy period of play and a long pass by Park was picked out by Cockermouth for an intercept converted try. With the scores level, both sides failed to string any phases together, but Park were penalised for not rolling away with the resultant Cockermouth line out leading to a chip ahead and an unconverted try.
A series of Cockermouth infringements lead to two Park penalties with one successfully converted by Cam Flanagan. A further infringement by Cockermouth (late tackle) led to a kick to touch by Park, the line out was won and a great run by Andrew Evans and Chris Twigg led to another penalty from the breakdown which Cam Flanagan converted.
Park continued to pressure Cockermouth but could not convert to points until a great backs move through the hands led to a Lee Allmark try in the corner which was converted by Cam Flanagan.
Following a few phases of play by both sides, Park continued to pressure the Cockermouth line and were awarded a penalty at the breakdown which was missed by Park. In the final few minutes of the game James Johnson kicked ahead and Chris Twigg chased and scored an unconverted try in the corner.
