(HT 0-0)

Winnington Park RFC

De la Salle (Salford) v WPRFC

02/10/21

Park has lots of changes to the team due to injury and non availability but started well and within a minute were awarded a penalty for a high tackle on Sean Underdown. The kick went wide of the post and the game for the first half was pretty uneventful. Both sides gained ground and then were put back and some tough tackling from the home side. Park pushed several times to the oppositions try line but could not complete the final move to score.

The first half ended with with DLS having the last kick of the game a penalty kick on the half way line but it fell short ending the half 0-0.

Four minutes into second half a serious dislocated knee injury to Gary Dykes suspended the game for twenty minutes whilst he was supported and taken to hospital.

The first points of the game went to Park after DLS were penalised for being offside. Penalty in kicking range, Chris Twigg put the points on the board.

Within two minutes DLS were awarded a penalty and chose to kick and levelled the score line.

After several Park errors allowed DLS well into their half and one of DLS’s big forwards forced his way over for a try from close range. The try was converted.

Six minutes after Park were awarded a penalty and Chris Twigg put further points on the board.

Park failed to gain momentum making more errors and bad decisions allowing DLS to get on a roll down the field. Poor defence cost WP another try ten minutes from full-time. The try was converted putting the score at 17-6.

Park pushed hard to get into DLS half with a good kick and the field play allowed them to pass the ball out wide to Lee Allmark (Skippy) who scored in the corner. The kick was missed.

On the day Park were not good enough and played against a big, physical DLS side who stopped a lot of Park's middle play. The many changes to the Park squad was no excuse to the performance and all credit to DLS who through hard physicality won the day and there first points of their league campaign.

Gary Dykes had his knee put back in place but will be out for sometime whilst the injury is fully assessed.
