WPRFC v Tarleton
25/09/21
Park were boosted with a great crowd on a lovely sunny day and hopefully to be treated to a third win in succession.
The first 13 mins were pretty much stalemate when scrum half James Johnson 20 metres from the try line broke away with a dummy pass and was tackled. The forwards recycled and second row Dave Cross powered over the line for the first try of the day. The kick was converted by Cam Flanagan.
shortly after Park again with continued pressure run the ball down the backs to score in the corner but the referee disallowed the try as he could not see the touchdown. This did not deter Park and a great individual run by Alex Glendinning was tacked but with Dave Cross in support collected the ball and went over to score his second try. The conversion was missed.
Matt Treacy who has been impressive this season was replaced due to an ankle injury by stalwart Harry Stubbs.
Park continued to take control of the game Will Nelson caught a high ball sprinted from within his own 22 nearly the length of the pitch to pass out to Lee Allmark for Parks third try. The conversion was missed which saw Park finish the first half 17 -0.
Park started strong in the second half and after a dominate phase camped in Tarleton's 22 with gaining yard after yard passed out to Harry Stubbs 10 metres out to power over the line. The conversion was kicked by Cam Flanagan. Shortly after Park were down to 14 men when Joe Cook was given the yellow card for foul play.
Park continued to dominate the game unfortunately Harry Stubbs body could not hold out with an open field in his own half he began to sprint forward but his hamstring pulled and had to retire from the game.
In the last five minutes Tarleton scored a consolation try to end the game 31- 7.
Park played some great rugby with captain Shaun Underdown showing great leadership and some powerful running. Sam Brookes made some crunching tackles in the backs. The whole team worked well and sit third in the league.
