WP played hosts to Longton, Leek and Chester in a mini tournament of 3 matches for each team.
On a cold day with very muddy pitches the girls played some outstanding rugby showing great improvement from the start of the season.
The first game saw Winnington take on Leek, and although they had an extra player, Winnington started very strongly, with Maddie making her comeback from injury with the first of a brilliant hatrick of tries in the first half. Winnington Park ran out winners( 8 tries to 5 ) with an outstanding defensive display by Nyah, who got multiple turnovers leading to several great tries.
The second game against Chester was a draw (5 tries all), WP girls were holding out for the win with some strong running and great offloading by Rebecca leading to several tries. As Chester were down a player Martha volunteered to Join them for the second half after Liv from Sandbach joined them for the first. Martha who had been solid in defence for WP suddenly found her mojo and scored a great individual try, unfortunately for Chester but we will take as one of our girls scored it.
In the final game we lost narrowly to Longton. However it was probably the best performance with good defence and support play and Freya gaining in confidence, making some strong runs and Martha again showing up well in defence and attack. As always Nyah was a strong presence with Rebecca constantly communicating and keeping the team together.
As the picture shows a really enjoyable and muddy day of rugby.
Thanks girls you made us proud!!
