Warrington v WPRFC

24th October 2026 – Park lose close game at Warrington

Warrington 18 – 11 WPRFC

This week Park travelled to newly promoted Warrington for the first game at Warrington since the 2021-2022 season. The conditions were very poor with heavy rain and windy conditions, so it was going to be a tough game in the conditions.

Park started the game and got off to a solid start with some good territory and possession but handling let them down in the poor conditions and handed the ball to Warrington to clear the lines. Warrington played a few phases and caught Park off side and while playing advantage they would have scored but knocked-on and came back for the penalty. They kicked for the corner and won the lineout at the front and broke through and scored the first try of the game on 6 minutes (5-0). The game was very even over the next 15 minutes with both sides having periods of attack and Robin Lowndes had a try disallowed on 12 minutes being adjudged to have held a defender back. Park continued to work hard and got a penalty 15 minutes when Warrington were caught holding on 30 metres out and Cameron Flanagan kicked the points (5-3). Warrington extended their lead on 20 minutes from the tee with a penalty (8-3). On 30 minutes Warrington had a lineout on the half way line but lost the ball and Joel Gaidan picked up and took the ball into contact, we recycled quickly and Robing Lowndes took the ball and powered through the defensive line 40 metres out and stepped the full back to score a great try in the corner and level the game (8-8). This was a game of attrition and both sides had to work hard in defence and attack in the conditions but the game was very even. Unfortunately, it was Warrington who scored on 39 minutes to take the lead into the second half (13-8).

Half time score 13 - 8

Warrington kicked off the second half with a 5 point lead but the game was a battle for the first 15 minutes of the second half with both teams not being able to convert field position and territory into points. Park had a couple of opportunities but with the weather conditions were affecting our handling and Warrington were suffering also in the poor conditions. Park had a good period of possession in the Warrington 22 in the early part of the half but Warrington defended well and exited their red zone with some deep kicks. Warrington extended their lead on 62 minutes from a scrum on the Park 22 but had to work hard to break the Park defence working through 10 phases before breaking the line from 5 metres out (18-8). On 75 minutes Park had a penalty 30 metres out and Cameron Flanagan stepped up to kick the penalty and close the gap (18-11).

This was a tough day for Park in the conditions and the game could have gone either way.
