Sandbach v WPRFC

3rd October 2026 – Park lose on the road to Sandbach

Sandbach 55 – 22 WPRFC

This week Park travelled to Sandbach for game two of the delayed season. With conditions fine and sunny it was going to be a good day for rugby against tough opposition.

Park kicked off the game and captain Matt Treacy was close to stealing the ball but Sandbach picked up the loose ball and kicked down field for Park to pick up and return the ball but Sandbach collected the ball and the winger broke through the line and passed to a supporting runner who scored in the corner on minute 1 (7-0). On 3 minutes, Sandbach indiscipline at the Park driving maul gave Park the opportunity of 3 points which Cameron Flanagan slotted over (7-3). On 11 minutes Park took the lead following a scrum on our own 10-metre line and following a couple of phases Phil Lynch made a great break to take us just outside the Sandbach 22 and after a couple more phases we got and penalty and worked hard through the phases to draw Sandbach in and the fifth phase Lachlan Pethybridge saw Will Du Randt on the left wing and threw a long pass and Will Du Randt scored our first try (7-8). Unfortunately, these were the only points for us in the first half, but Sandbach scored a further four tries on 18, 23, 34 and 38 minutes to a big lead into the second half (31-8), we did have a shot at goal at 25 minutes but was unsuccessful.

Half time score 31 - 8

Sandbach kicked off the second half and extended their lead further on 42 and 47 minutes with a couple of early scores (45-8) which put Park on the back foot early in the second half with a massive deficit to close. On 50 minutes Park scored our second try through Ross Morrin following good pressure from Park in the Sandbach 22, forcing them to kick a poor clearance out which went out inside their 22. Park won the lineout and worked hard through the forwards for nine phases before Ross Morrin powered over from close range with Cameron Flanagan adding the extras (45-15). The next 10 minutes was a battle with Park down to 14 players following a yellow for Lachlan Pethybridge for a late tackle. Sandbach extended their lead further on 63 and 65m with a couple of scores (55-15) but Park pulled one back on 70 minutes through Tom King following a Sandbach penalty with Park kicking for the corner and winning the lineout and taking a few phases in and then Ethan Prosser taking the ball in and off loading in the tackle to Tom King who scored in the corner and Cameron Flanagan adding the conversion (55-22).

This was a tough day for Park against tough opposition but there were some positives from the game to work on for next week when we face our neighbours in a derby match.

Final score Sandbach 55 – 22
