WPRFC v Firwood Waterloo

13th September 2025 – Park win emphatically at home

WPRFC 58 – 17 Firwood Waterloo

This week Park welcomed Firwood Waterloo (FW) to stade de Burrows Hill for the second fixture of the season and Park were full of spirit following a great week of training and keen to build on the win away from home last week. Park also welcomed a returning face to the line up in Conor Lapniewski.

Park started the game and immediately defended in the FW half and got their rewards in the first minute with a knock on by FW and a chance for the forwards to show their scrum set piece. The scrum was won and a penalty on the way, but Park did not need it as the ball was passed out through the backs to Alex De Keyzer who cut through the FW line to score great try with Cameron Flanagan adding the conversion (7-0). Park continued to work hard defensively and did not give FW any chance to build any phases. On 8 minutes Park had a scrum just inside the FW half and attacked FW and made ground on every phase with strong carries and FW could not contain the power and following 8 phases Cameron Flanagan popped the ball to Tom King who powered over from short range to score with Cameron Flanagan adding the extras (14-0). This was a dominant performance so far and FW were totally stifled. On 16 minutes Park had a scrum 25 metres out following an FW knock on and the scrum was working well and Dan Williams picked up at the back of the scrum passing to Cameron Flanagan who passed to Alex De Keyzer who ran a great line, stepped the full back for his second try of the game (19-0). 5 minutes later Park were in again following a scrum in FW 22 with Dan Williams picking up at the back and taking into contact, the ball was recycled quickly with a couple more phases and then Will Du Randt took a short ball through the line stepping the defence to score a bonus point try with Cameron Flanagan adding the conversion (26-0). FW could not get any foothold in the game as Park were dominant in every facet of the game and on 27 minutes Tom King was also in for his second try following an FW lineout in their own 22 which was over thrown and pick up by Robin Lowndes who passed to Johdell Akua who made good ground and presented the ball, Jack Williams stepped in to play the ball to Matthew Treacy who passed to Alex De Keyzer who stepped a couple of players and as he was being tackled he off loaded to Tom King for another score with Cameron Flanagan adding the conversion (33-0). FW did have period of possession but could not break down the Park defence as Park were defiant and too strong for FW. The last try of the first half came on 38 minutes with great hand through to Riewoldt Teabuge who showed his strength in breaking through a couple of tackle and then off loading in the tackle to Joel Gaidan who powered through two tackle from the 22 to score our sixth try and round off a very impressive first half dominance (38-0).

Half time score 38 - 0

FW restarted the game and within two minutes they scored their first points of the game which came from a lineout on the Park 10 metre line which went through the hands into contact and with a penalty on the way they recycled quickly and passed out to their winger who ran in to score in the corner (38-5). The game had slowed down from the first half and couple of errors from Park gave FW a bit more possession, but Park continued to work hard in defence and but also when in possession Park carried strongly. FW were still on the back foot, and their indiscipline was punished by Cameron Flanagan from the tee on 50 and 52 minutes with two penalties which he kicked to extend the lead (44-5). FW did not let the score line totally dominate their game and on 59 minutes they scored their second try with a break away from inside their own half and a pass to the support runner who walked in under the sticks (44-12). 5 minutes later FW were in again when they picked up a loose pass on the half way line and got into the Park 22, with a penalty on the way they passed the ball out and their fly half broke through the line and off loaded to their support runner who juggled the ball but kept hold and scored (44-17). Park restarted the game and an error from FW when did not take the ball and Riewoldt Teabuge saw the opportunity and ran through collected the ball and ran under the sticks for a lovely solo effort with Cameron Flanagan adding the conversion (51-17). Park rounded off an emphatic win following a FW lineout on the half way line, they won the lineout and passed out to the backs along the line but the ball was lost in the contact and man of the match Alex De Keyzer picked up the ball inside the Park half and ran through to score our eighth try and a hat-trick for Alex De Keyzer. Cameron Flanagan added the conversion (58-17) with another great performance off the tee.

This was a very impressive performance from the whole Park squad to seal a dominant win at home.
